Getting to MeiLi Snow Mountain is no easy task. Located six hours north of Shangri-La, MeiLi is one of the largest and most sacred mountain ranges to the Tibetans. We weren't sure if it would be worth the long car ride, but everyone in Shangri-la assured us that it would. So, we booked a car and left in the morning. The scenery along the way to MeiLi was gorgeous, but it was hard to really enjoy it, since there was a sharp turn every five minutes! It turns out the easiest way to get to MeiLi requires crossing a couple of mountains first. While the roads are quite safe, the experience left all us dizzy and a bit nauseous. Once we got there, though, we realized it was totally worth it. The natural beauty was more striking than anything I had ever seen. In total, there are 13 peaks, and they are covered by the fog for most of the year. We were told that if we got to see all 13 peaks, it would be a once in a lifetime experience. Even though we werent so lucky, we still felt like it was a once in a lifetime experience. Along the base of the mountain range, there are hiking trails and even glaciers. We decided to stay behind and enjoy the scenery from a couple of cafes. :)

Visitors should know that the mountain is considered sacred to Tibetans, so you will find countless prayer flags all around the base of the mountain, which further adds to the allure and beauty of MeiLi.
