Anyone who has been to a Japanese restaurant with me knows that I am always looking for good soba noodles. So, when I heard about Bankura, I couldn't wait to check it out! The fresh soba noodles were actually a tad too soft. for me. So, why the five hearts? Well, everything else was outstanding! The sesame-crusted mackerel was a perfect blend of crispy sesame and rich mackerel. The fried chicken

When it comes to stylish restaurants in Shanghai, I have had too many disappointments that I've come to equate "stylish" with "bland" or much worse. So, when I heard a friend describe Issimo as "stylish", I couldn't help but be a little skeptical. After three attempts to find something suspicious, I am very happy to report that I have only uncovered really delicious Italian food. Actually, the gr

Finally had the chance to try Casa 13, and I can't wait to go back again. Tucked away in a small alley in the French Concession, Casa 13 is housed in a remodeled Spanish-style villa with a beautiful courtyard. Once inside, you immediately feel a sense of calm and warmth, as if you are visiting an old friend's house. While the location is certainly charming a reason to go back, the food is definite

My prayers have been answered! Good Mexican food has finally arrived in Shanghai! On our recent visit to Maya, we wolfed down the guacamole, ceviche, fish tacos and empanadas. The chicken tamales left us a little disappointed, but we were too busy licking the guacamole bowl to dwell on the dry tamale. We didn't bother ordering any of the entrees, since the appetizers were so delicious and very re

There are many Italian restaurants in Shanghai, and a surprising number of them are quite good. None of them, however, are quite like Da Papa' Mario. You wont find a fancy bar, baroque decor, or an extensive drink menu. Light on the design touches, to the point of almost bare, the restaurant solely focuses its attention on the food, and I couldn't be more thankful. The pizzas and calzones are top-

Fresh, quality ingredients are so important for Chinese hotpot. So, when we heard about a new organic hotpot restaurant featuring organic vegetables, Japanese pork and free-range chicken, we were really excited to check it out.
Our first impression was very positive. The design and decor were both top-rate. Filled with hungry customers on a late Tuesday night, it looked like business was doing g

Tapas are good though a bit on the oily/heavy side. Service was pleasant (even though totally disorganised). The best part of dinner was the wine list: good, wide and at amazingly cheap prices. A good venue for celebrating something since one can afford lots of wine and/or champagne the whole night!!

Allen has been trying to drag me to this restaurant for weeks, but whenever we walked by, I just couldnt take it seriously. The first floor of this restaurant is a teddy bear store! And not just any teddy bear store, it calls itself a "teddy bear museum". Apparently, the owner is a life-long teddy bear collector, so the store features most of her collection along with "DIY" bears that you can cust

How many places offers a great selection of Champagne and whiskey alongside soba noodles?! If you are ever craving for that combination, Ci5 is the place to go. I stumbled upon it one night, and fell in love instantly. Its one of the few bars in Shanghai that prefers to be hidden and quiet. It doesnt fit more than 20 people, and it's perfectly happy that way. The menu is a reflection of that same
